How to Activate Your Ticket

Select your university and follow the steps below to activate your ticket. Tip: If you're planning to study abroad for a semester or are still unsure whether you'll be studying in Leipzig, wait before activating your ticket.

  1. Install the LeipzigMOVE app
  2. Register with your personal L-Login
  3. In the app, go to “Subscriptions & Bookings”
  4. Select “Add semester ticket”
  5. Log in with your university credentials. Your name will automatically be transferred to the digital ticket.
  6. Add your date of birth

  4. Select “Add existing D-Ticket”

  5. Enter your details: contract number, first name, last name, date of birth

Important: Your details must exactly match the email you received (including special characters).

If you are unable to use your ticket in the LeipzigMOVE app, you will receive a chip card instead. You can collect it from one of our service centres. Please bring the following documents with you:

  • Valid ID card or passport
  • Student ID
  • Certificate of enrolment
  • Contract number (SRH University students only)

Please note:

  • Waiting times at service centers may be longer during busy periods.
  • To issue a chip card, we need to collect and store your address details.
  • A fee applies for the replacement of lost or damaged chip cards.
  • Your chip card will not be automatically renewed for the next semester. To continue using it, you must visit a service centre again each semester and provide proof of eligibility. Please bring your current chip card and all required documents with you. Once your eligibility has been verified, your chip card will be activated for the new semester.

Good to know: Your mobile ticket can be displayed even without an internet connection, for example while travelling by train. The QR code is valid for one month at a time and is automatically renewed during the last four days before the end of its validity period.

Already using a Deutschland-Semesterticket in LeipzigMOVE?

Your ticket will not be renewed automatically. You must activate it again in the app LeipzigMOVE each semester. Before activating your ticket, please make sure that you are using the latest version of the app.

 

Good to know: After activation, your current ticket may still be displayed at first. It will update automatically when the new semester begins. As long as you have successfully activated your ticket for the new semester, everything is set.

 

Taking children or a bicycle with you?

Children under the age of 6 travel free of charge. For older children, you can purchase an additional ticket, such as the “Child Travel Add-on” or the “Bildungsticket”.

Your bicycle is included with the Deutschland-Semesterticket. On S-Bahn and regional train services within the MDV area, you can take your bicycle with you free of charge at any time. On trams and buses, free bicycle transport is available Monday to Saturday from 7:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., as well as all day on Sundays and public holidays in Saxony. Outside these times, you need an extra ticket.

If you receive the error message “No travel authorization found” in LeipzigMOVE, please contact your university’s student administration office or check the following criteria beforehand:

  • Has your enrolment/re-registration been confirmed by the university?
  • Has the semester fee been fully paid? Please note bank processing days and university processing times.
  • Were your details entered correctly?

Yes. The Deutschland-Semesterticket is valid on local and regional public transport throughout Germany for the entire semester.

During a ticket inspection, please present your Deutschland-Semesterticket in LeipzigMOVE or your chip card, along with a valid photo ID. The name on your ticket must match the name on your ID.

If you are registered at your university under a different name than the one shown on your official photo ID, for example due to your right to self-determination, you have two options:

  • Ask your university to update the name stored in its systems. Once the names match, you can receive a valid mobile ticket.
  • Alternatively, you can obtain a chip card from one of our service centres. Chip cards are always issued in the name shown on your official photo ID.

Your Deutschland-Semesterticket is always available digitally in the app LeipzigMOVE. In addition, you automatically receive Gold status in our BonusMOVE rewards programme, giving you access to benefits such as 10 free nextbike rides per month, shopping vouchers, discounted tickets and many other exclusive offers from partners in and around Leipzig.

No. The Deutschland-Semesterticket is a personal ticket and cannot be transferred.

In fare zone 110 (Leipzig), you can book various travel add-ons as a separate contract:
Child Travel Add-on: €1.90 per month

  • Up to three children travel free of charge
  • Valid Monday to Friday from 5:00 p.m.
  • Valid all day on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays
  • One child may be replaced by a dog
     

Adult Companion Add-on: €5.80 per month

  • One adult travels free of charge
  • Valid Monday to Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 4:00 a.m. the following day
  • Valid all day on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays
  • The accompanying adult may be replaced by a dog

If you have both add-ons, only one person in total may be replaced by a dog. Please note that this rule does not apply to the transport of items or objects subject to a charge.

You can book the add-ons for your Deutschland-Semesterticket through a separate contract. The easiest way is via our customer portal.

Add-ons can be cancelled on a monthly basis. As they are managed separately from your Deutschland-Semesterticket, the monthly fee will be charged separately from your bank account.
